What is a Width?
Each cut length of fabric (54” wide for silks, 58" wide for linens) is called a “width”. Widths are sewn together vertically to make wider panels. Widths can also be split in half. For example, a full width sewn to a 1/2 width is called “1.5 widths”, and 2 full widths sewn together is “2 widths”.
We use 3” for each side hem which deducts a total of 6" from the overall unsewn fabric dimensions.
